The Highlands Mountaintop (formerly Village Square) Art & Craft shows span two days with around 80 top notch regional artisans. They create fiine art & prints, folk art, various crafts, and rustic furniture. Some share demonstrations of their work. We usually have live music, which combined with art, food and and our cool mountain air, makes for a fun family event. You can even bring your dog. What's not to love?
There is no admission charge to the shows, but the sponsor, MountainTop Rotary of Highlands would sure appreciate a donation to help them fund the amazing work they do in our community.
Shows are held in Kelsey-Hutchinson "Founders" Park on Pine Street, a short walk from Main Street in downtown Highlands, NC. You will find lots of shopping and dining in the surrounding area. We plan to have food vendors in the park. Another option is Fressers Courtyard Cafe next door in the Village Square, with a great menu and even better food.
The often unconventional free spirits who participate in these shows will surely amaze and inspire you. They have alternative pathways for their artistic expression, but they are visionary and imaginative in ways most of us are incapable of. All of them have homes in the area, which is our way of supporting local arts and crafts.
Purchasing something directly from an artisan gives you a unique experience. You not only meet the maker, you can learn about what inspires him/her, maybe even the story of your piece, all of which provide context and meaning that you cannot get when you buy something off the shelf in a store. Plus you are helping the arts to thrive in our mountains.
The shows go on, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Join us for a grand time!
